How to Make A Bingo Dauber Mandala

I never really thought of a bingo dauber as an art tool until recently. But the circular dot that results with each daub can create some really amazing visual work. Bingo daubers come in lots of colors, and look really great when you layers them. They are super easy to use for art makers of any age.

In this blog post, I’ll show a step by step example of a Mandala with a bingo dauber twist. This post includes a materials list, a video tutorial, FREE mandala template download, and step by step photos to help you work at your own pace.

What materials will you need?

  • Sharpie
  • Paper
  • Mandala template (recommended, see below for free download)
  • Bingo Daubers

In my tutorial, I used these bingo daubers by Magic Fly, available on Amazon. They had really great vibrant colors, are non toxic, and washable. A great choice for young artists!

Why use a mandala template?

This template is a really helpful tool to ensure that your final product has accurate radial balance. Radial balance is a type of artistic balance where everything is centered around a middle point. To use this template to ensure radial balance: simply print this out, lay it under your paper, and allow the lines that are seen through to guide you. If you’d like, you could also lightly trace this onto another sheet of paper to work.

Step 4: Add lots of marks using your template to guide you in keeping everything balance. Explore overlapping a variety of colors and varying the placement of your marks to make it more visually appealing.

Step 5: Let your bingo dots dry fully. Then, begin adding sharpie lines on top to make your mandala more intricate and layered. You may choose to sketch these marks with pencil first.

Step 6: Add more detail. Explore different marker weights ranging from thick to thin. Create more contrast with your busy background by filling in some shapes fully. Explore other marker colors or art materials.
